Biography
Ilja Baumeier grew up in Arlesheim near Basel. Following his four-year acting training at the Freiburg drama school E-Werk, he performed in So ist es at Theater im Marienbad and the world premieres of Michelle Steinbeck’s Das Schweigen des Nepomuk and Der zerbrochene Spiegel in Dornach.
With the artist collective Flex Colectivo, founded in 2018, the first production Werther after Goethe (director: Kaija Ledergerber), an award-winning anniversary project of the Denk an mich Foundation, was launched in fall 2019. The premiere in September 2019 at neuestheater.ch in Dornach was followed by a tour with this play in the 2019/20 season.
Baumeier can be seen in various feature films and series, including under the direction of Güzin Kar in the 2nd season of the SRF-produced television series Seitentriebe in the continuous role of Marius, under the direction of Greg Zglinski in the SRF production Dynastie Knie in the leading role of Fredy Knie Junior and in 2021 under the direction of Michael Steiner in the SRF series Die Beschatter in the episodic role of Gabriel Hannes Balmer. He also played the lead role of Bruce Stone in the ZDF TV film Frühstück bei Tessa in 2023, directed by Karola Meeder.
Baumeier also works as a voice actor at Jingle Jungle Studios in Zurich and for Swiss radio in radio play productions and is a member of the Swiss Association of Professional Voice Artists (VPS).
In 2021, he made his directorial debut with the web series 2059, which was distributed by SRF in the same year. Baumeier has also been active as a producer since 2020.
