Biography

Anatole Taubman, born in Zurich, Switzerland, went to the USA after graduating from high school and studied in New York at the renowned Circle in the Square acting school of the theatre of the same name. After his return to Europe, he appeared on various Swiss stages from 1994. Taubman made his cinema debut in 1999 with a supporting role in Egon Günther’s historical film «The Bride». After leading roles in the love parade drama «Be.Angeled» (2001) and the B-movie «Mask Under Mask» as well as small appearances in the international productions «Equilibrium» (2002) and «Luther» (2003), Taubman first attracts greater attention in Dominique de Rivaz’s «Mein Name ist Bach» (2003): He is nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Swiss Film Awards for his impersonation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s second son.

Taubman plays a leading role in the award-winning «Marmorera» (2007), a ghost story about a psychiatrist who gradually falls into madness. He is also often seen in international productions. He plays an Albanian gangster in the French thriller «96 Hours» (2008), a French executioner in the US TV series «The Tudors» (2008) and a Serbian war criminal in the British TV two-parter «Waking the Dead» (2008). Anatole Taubman plays striking supporting roles in the James Bond film «Quantum of Solace» (2008) as the sidekick of Bond’s antagonist Dominic Greene, in Sönke Wortmann’s bestselling adaptation of «The Pope Joan» (2009) as Anastasius, and in «Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky» (2009) as Chanel’s first great love.

In December 2018, Taubman was appointed as the second official ambassador for UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
